Mike Evans Awards $150,000 in Scholarships to 13 Students
Tampa, FL – Aug. 13, 2024 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers Wide Receiver Mike Evans and his wife Ashli recently awarded $150,000 to high school students to pursue their education and goals.
After reviewing over 320 applications, Evans’ Mike Evans Family Foundation selected 13 recipients whose resilience and personal achievements stood out among the rest. Evans and his foundation awarded 13 scholarships in honor of his jersey number, #13. Each recipient received $10,000 towards tuition and fees for the 2024-25 school year, with two of the recipients receiving an additional $10,000 in honor of two women from Galveston that made a great impact on Evans and the local community.
Evans congratulated the recipients during a virtual ceremony. The recipients expressed their gratitude and shared how this scholarship helped make going to college possible for them. They were also able to ask Evans questions about college, life and the upcoming season.
“This scholarship helped me cover the costs of school,” said Cory White, one of the recipients who will be attending Southern Nazarene University in the fall. “I will be on the football team, and I can’t wait to get out on the field.”
In the first few years, Mike and Ashli Evans used their own money to fund Mike Evans Family Foundation initiatives. As the Foundation has grown, friends and sponsors have helped the Evans contribute more money for educational programs, such as the annual scholarships.
“I am grateful to continue to give out scholarships every year,” said Evans. “Nothing really beats the college lifestyle—the time period that you’re in. I know these kids will enjoy it and continue to work hard.”
To continue making an impact, the Mike Evans Family Foundation hosts several events, such as the first-ever Mike Evans Family Foundation Tee-Off Bash in Evans’ own college town, Bryan-College Station, TX, and a Back-to-School Bash at Children’s Home Network in Tampa, FL. The Foundation also recently established the Sponsor A Scholar program to make a larger impact on youth education. Fans are encouraged to contribute a monthly online donation of $13 to “Sponsor A Scholar” and help hardworking students achieve their dreams of attending college.
Those who set up an online donation of $13 or more/month will receive an exclusive M1K3 pin (while supplies last). Additionally, anyone who makes a $13 online donation to the Mike Evans Family Foundation within 24 hours of each Buccaneers game this season will be entered into a drawing for a signed item from Evans. Winners will be announced weekly on the foundation’s Instagram, and Evans will personally match every online donation up to $13,000!
