Tech Today
altText
Wrapping up CES this week, I'm stoked on certain future technologies, and scared of others. Sometimes new ideas seem too good to be true. On the other hand, often we overlook how great an idea is, and skirt it's safety concerns.
Everyone drops their phone from time to time, that's why otterbox is probably a household name. I myself have broken several cases due to frequent dropping, but towards the end of a cases life I'm always unhappy with it's appearance. Nissan, strangely, of all companies may have a fix! Check out their new case that can REPAIR ITSELF. http://techcrunch.com/2012/01/17/nissan-scratch-shield/
Mercedes Benz should be faulted for only one thing in their existence, save for the Maybach. That thing was hideous. As any smart phone owner will tell you, often your touchscreen, and gesture features are inaccurate and leave much to be desired. That is my exact concern when reading about their proposed touch/gesture console, in prototyping. I can't imagine the mishaps involved when you swipe to turn on a blinker, and it points in a direction you didn't anticipate. Also, the idea of projecting the cars gauges onto the windshield is an asinine safety hazard. http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/mercedes-benz-gesture-control-concept-is-dicey/
Finally in closing, this week I went off the deep end, and purchased something I had been eying for quite a long time. Sitting in my pc chair probably 45% of my waking hours, and having a bad back as it is, it's quite important to me. That's why I decided to justify buying myself a thousand dollar computer chair.
Before you openly bash me for such a purchase in this economy, take a look at it. And ask yourself if you critique my purchasing because it's foolish, or because you actually want it.
This chair has it all. After 30 minutes of sitting in it I started to feel an odd warming sensation in my lower back, and then some pops. I realized that the chair was actually supporting my posture in such a way as no chair had ever done, that it was FIXING my posture while sitting in it. Now, here at work, I'm saddened by the bargain chairs. I need to bring my chair to work with me.
